Bit of a pisser though, because I'm on a one gig plan, and was waiting to
see if I needed to move to a higher capped plan. I was going to do that
for my xmas pressie to myself, but looks like I was too late to make
changes. I suppose I should monitor my national/international traffic
over the next couple of months to see what sort of impact it will have.

A sad state of affairs really, when they start doing things like this
peoplel will start thinking why do I need to do any hosting within NZ? if
there is no real advantage for people (well ok lower latency maybe).

Essentially people will stop hosting in NZ, because most people will get
content from overseas (where the majority of international customers
live). With no (or minimal) local hosting the telcos will just have
higher costs associated with having to provide international bandwidth
(either that or the end users get lower performance) either way the NZ
customers are gonna get robbed.

It's like paying a fixed price per minute on the phone no matter where you
are dialing - no free local calling. A call to outer Siberia would be the
same cost as the call to the neighbour - where are they gonna get their
cost recovery from? the local call of course.

Pack of thieving bastards.
