If you can't figure it out from iftop:
http://www.ex-parrot.com/~pdw/iftop/
try installing ntop:
http://www.ntop.org/ntop.html
Both of these should help you figure out which port/protocol is
responsible for the bandwidth use, then it is a matter of using netstat
etc. to figure out which processes are doing all the traffic on that
port/protocol.
This looks like it will give you what you want, but i have no experience
using it.
