The -u switch is slightly more useful - working with blocks is harder.

fdisk -l -u /dev/hdb

Are you planning to repair the original disk, or the backup? Sounds like 
space is limited so you might have to operate on the disk itself, but 
ideally you'd duplicate the backup and experiment with that first.
