[wellylug] Installation problem.

Morning all,
Having a problem installing  - boots off CD ok, goes through the preamble,
gets to"decompressing linux...ok, booting the kernel" and hangs.

Have tried all the various distro CDs I've got including - Red Hats 6, 7,
7.2, 8.x, Fedora, old and new Mandrakes, Xandros, SUSE, etc. Some are home
burned from downloads, others are magazine cover disks The disks have worked
at various times on other boxes in the past. 

The PC in question is a Compaq Deskpro, Celeron 1G, 512M, 40G HDD, Has a
Digital (Tulip?) network card, but onboard video and audio. Intel 815
chipset

It DOES load Widows ( Home and Pro) perfectly. 

Any ideas, please?
