Yupers I did, I have not payed too much attention the last week or so...Last
year they asked ppl to do the orders pretty early on.
I remember running out of Ubuntu cd's last year, much more went than
anticipated, we have manged to get rid of all but a few breezies of the 300
odd we got for clubs day.
So based on getting rid of the 150 last year(just as part of SFD) and 300 odd
opencd's + Another 200 odd opencd's and Dicksmiths CD's that came out of the
woodwork from Brent. I think we can safely order 300 ubuntu's and repeat the
300 opencd's (possibly more??, depends on non-interface Wellington
participants wanting stuff).
What really made them effective was our effort and packing with bright lollies
and pamphlets that really did the trick, so essentially this is almost the
more important part.
Also we did not get everything we asked for, which is fine, but bear that in
mind ;-)
I also think we need to plan our university quad presence more carefully this
year, and maybe do it over two weeks (I don't particular want to be bullied
by burly VUWSA people again ;-/)
Again doing a downtown presence on the morning of the actual SFD day can
probably be facilitated with the NZOSS(Brent) and the WLUG again, with
interface being primarily a distribution point. I've CC'd E-mail both the
NZOSS lists and the WLUG and ask people if they were happy with the
arrangement again this year, and as Interface as being the Official
Wellington "Point of Presence" for shipped goods etc.
Please both WLUG and NZOSS members getting this e-mail, let me know if you are
happy to have Interface (Vic Uni) be the "Physical" organisation point.
I encourage anyone with their own idea's for "Events" etc relating to the day
to let others know.
In this mold, Interface (the Vic Computer Club) "officially" will hold just
events on Campus, individual members however may be interested in
participating in wider community/regional events for the day itself. We can
also probably provide a venue for say a presentation for businesses on Open
Source Practise etc (pending exec approval etc of course), that are run by
non interface people.
Last years SFD teams page is here:
http://interface.org.nz/ifwiki/?xembed=SoftwareFreedomDay
and last years teams page for wellington region:
http://www.softwarefreedomday.org/teams/oceania/nz/wellington
I would quite like to see participation from wider community this year in a
slightly more organised fashion, I know there were a few people who wanted to
do stuff etc, but didn't end up because they forgot etc etc.
Interface can create a mailing list perhaps of people wanting to be involved.
I would like to propose that we hold an initial planning meeting sometime over
the next 3 weeks for all interested parties to attend with ideas and
suggestions.
For the moment if you are interested in participating DO NOT e-mail me, add
yourself to the initial interest for SFD06 wiki page, and I will start making
a mailing list.
