If you're using ide-scsi, then your CD-ROM becomes /dev/scd0. (From the
earlier messages that I skimmed past I suspect that was happening anyway
even before you changed grub, since I saw references to sr0 -- which is
a SCSI raw device used, eg, for writing CDs.)
You may want to try mounting /dev/scd0 somewhere (eg /cdrom) and see how
you get on. If that works, perhaps symlink /dev/cdrom -> /dev/scd0.
