hi all,
Information about last night's meeting is in this email. I plan to do
one of these after each meeting. I might link them to the website
somehow, for people who don't use the mailing list.
POPULARITY
----------
last night's meeting was the first with the new format, which everyone
seemed to like. (or everyone was to polite to say otherwise! :-O )
We had lots of people - about 3x last meeting's number, with a good mix
of newbies and faces I hadn't seen for a long time.
So I think it was quite a successful meeting. Thanks to all who
came. :-)
TALKS
-----
I did a short talk on GnuPG, which is available for download here:

You are welcome to email me at "jethro.carr at jethrocarr.com" if you have
any questions or need help in this area.
FOLLOWUPS
---------
To the "new Steve" (we have more than one Steve), who I was talking
about running games on Linux, you may be interested in the following
presentation I did on Linux gaming at last year's installfest:
http://www.jethrocarr.com/articles/presentations/downloads/fragging-with-the-penguin.pdf
To the person planning to install Linux (sorry, I forgot your name :*),
if you bring along your machine to the next meeting, I have a copy of
Ubuntu 5.10 which we could install.
Plus Peter will probably bring the big box of Ubuntu disks to the next
meeting for anyone who wants any. (Peter, next meeting, could you please
tell me if you bring them? In that case, I can tell the newbies.)
It would be quite good if we could always have Linux CD's available at
each meeting, of a easy to use distro (Ubuntu, Mandriva, etc), as many
new people say they want to use it, but they need to get the disks
first, and many have dialup.
NEXT MONTH
----------
Next month I plan to hold a mini-keysigning. I'll post some detailed
instructions on this list sometime before the event, but I have some
basic information on the last slide of the presentation, on how to get
setup for it. If you find the info too hard, wait until I post the
details. :-)
Next month's presentation is titled "ENUM - Security and Privacy - The
NZ Trial", which will be presented by Catalyst IT.
This is a talk about VoIP technologies they are working with, and a
system they are developing to link together all different forms of
communications (email, phone, voip, etc).
This should be running, and I'll get definite confirmation in a week or
so.
thanks all,
