WellyLUG itself has directly benefitted from those computers having been
made available at no cost to WellyLUG members.

Wasn't that downtime on the website yesterday the time when one of those
computers was put into service as the new host of our website?

Wouldn't the availability of FREE computers that are actually still very
useful machines provide an excellent opportunity to learn about
networking on Linux machines? About setting up NFS? Samba? LDAP? Bind?
Apache? etc?

It's just a wee bit different if you've got these things actually
physically on a different computer - you have to use them like everybody
else uses them.

I see educational opportunities for WellyLUG members that result from
having useful hardware available to members from time to time and at no
cost.

What about having a spot on the website where WellyLUG can have a list of
currently available free hardware in good working order that is available
for WellyLUG members to have or to use?

Personally, I wouldn't be able to get my email or view web pages without
at least three computers at my place being switched on and working
correctly - firewall, server, desktop. And I've learned a lot by having
those functions separated, and initially I started splitting those
functions apart because I had free hardware available to me.

Isn't making free hardware available to WellyLUG members another way that
members can positively contribute to WellyLUG?

Cheers

David

ps - my last email address that I was using for receiving WellyLUG email
has started receiving spam. Thus I have changed it. Those of you who read
WellyLUG from on a non-Linux based computer should check your machines and
again get rid of your latest lot of spyware, malware, trogans,
key-loggers, viruses and worms!!!
