[wellylug] TelstraClear cable modem and SME server woes

Hi, after many years of using SME (nee E-smith) on dial up, where it has
worked perfectly, yesterday I had TCL cable connected and cannot get SME to
connect to the internet. The server has two ethernet cards, a RLT8139 and a
3Com 3c905, both of which are recognized by SME. The 3com talks to the local
lan and the RLT is remote. Both cards work, as I have swapped them around
(ie RTL for local and 3Com for remote) There is a static IP for the cable
connection, which works perfectly when connected directly to any of the lan
PCs (after changing the IP numbers, obviously).. The SME documentation says
to use DHCP on the WAN side, but that doesn't work either.
Any suggestions, please?

Peter
