Just try and get 512MB+ of memory (though you can always buy more after 
the fact). By the time you launch Gnome/KDE, Firefox and OpenOffice you 
have sucked 256MB dry and performance starts to drop off (which in my 
opinion has a much greater performance impact than a slow CPU).
