Hello Cliff,

For (K)Ubuntu it seems to be a requirement to have access to the WEB.
Because if you must use apt-get to install an option WEB access is
required if you won't have to much work with the installation.
Using SuSE, for example, you will have to start YAST, select the package
you want to install and than you have to insert one of the additional
CD's or DVD's.

In my opinion (K)Ubuntu looks (after running it one week) pretty good. I
won't say that the other distributions are bad.
I think if using certified hardware all distributions run excellent.
But it is said, probably a rumor, that Debian is one of the most stable
and most complete distributions. Most complete means: Having most of the
OpenSource software ready to install via apt-get.
Today I've installed NVU at the new (K)Ubuntu box and a RedHat box. It
took 20 seconds to install at the (K)Ubuntu box but 120 minutes to find
the right way to install it at my RedHat box (Including searching at
google, rpmseek.com, nvu.com, downloading and compiling source,
searching for required patches and libs and so on).
The major benefit of (K)Ubuntu (compared to RedHat) seems to be (up to
now) the installation of additional software. In German we would say:
"Das flutscht wie geschmiert!". This means something like: "It sashays
like lubricated!". ;-)
kind regards
Gerald
