Hi Mark,
            The disk boots from drive D. Thank you for saying had I tried from both drawers. I hadn't!!!!! and I know that my machine always checks D then E at startup.
hope it's not the start of Alzheimers.
            I will now do a backup of all that I don't have a copy of, as one of my old manager's used to say when I wanted to get rid of anything. I tried a full backup of my whole HD the other day it came out just over 12GB.
            My thanks to everyone who took an interest and helped me with this problem, you are the tops in my book, pure gold,cheers Leo.
