Hi,

I'd just like to thank everyone who responded with offers of
installation CDs and help.

I got a copy of Kubuntu and Ubuntu and have tried to install both at
separate times.  They both stall during the partition process.  I
tried all partition options but they all stall (nothing happens for >8
hours) after the HD scan.  I now suspect that I have more hardware
problems than a simple :-) corrupted HD.  But enough winging about my
hardware problems.  This was meant to be a thank you post.
