If your pc as old as you say in your initial email, the (K)Ubuntu
*alternate* install CD may be the only way to go. I have installed
alternate versions on my 10 year old laptop ( to keep up with 6 month
update cycle) and have found this to be a success. The alternate
install CD uses a 'blue screen' method of install which is far less
demanding during the install process on ram and graphics memory than the
liveCD install version. Don't let 'blue screen' put you off though -
this is as straight forward as the liveCD way, just not as pretty! I
have Kubuntu 7.04 alternate install CD that I can make copy of if you
like, but I live in the Hutt - don't know how convenient that is to
you. Alternatively, visit http://www.thelin-xportal.com/ for any
distribution delivered to your door for around $5/cd. (No I don't have
shares in the business!...)
