[wellylug] PCI SATA controllers

Hello,

Has anyone had any experience with Linux and PCI (not PCI-express)
SATA controllers such as this one:

??

I'm curious to know whether this will work with Linux, specifically
Ubuntu 7.04 (or 7.10 if I have to upgrade because of this). I'm not
looking to use RAID but I'd consider a known-good SATA RAID controller
in non-RAID configuration, if it's cheap enough.

Alternatively, is anyone currently using a SATA hard disk with a
similar PCI controller card and if so how does it differ in terms of
drivers compared with motherboard-based SATA controllers?

Unfortunately Google hasn't been much help to me so far - I find a lot
of unanswered forum questions about the same thing, but no useful
answers.
