Lots of people will probably offer you lots of differently-named CDs; there
are differences between them but at this stage you don't really need to
worry about what they are ... just choose one and get started. You'll
probably see at least these names offered :-

Ubuntu
Kubuntu
SUSE
Fedora
Mepis

Strictly speaking "Linux" is at the core of all of these; some look more
like Windows than others. All share the same essential values.

One thing that'll really help in choosing which one to start with is to tell
us what sort of computer you want to use it on, if there is already Windows
on it, and if you want to keep anything from the old Windows install at all;
or even to be able to keep it and install Linux alongside, and choose which
one to run when you switch the machine on.
