Card readers are cheap as chips these days, and I would imagine most are
well supported as they use fairly standard drivers (Windows XP has them
build in most of the time.) - but I can't speak from experience on the
Linux supportability of them.
However most Card Readers read everything... SD is the 'other' major
standard and you wouldn't go wrong with using those either. My laptop has
an inbuild SD reader.
Also, if the camera were to use XD, you can get SD to XD converters, so
that tells me that theyre the same standard in a different layout, and
that even if you dont have an XD reader, an SD one can work...
