In terms of hardware requirements: it all depends; is it going
to be just that - a cache? Or do you want file, print, mail and
database services as well? I concur with Jethro regarding the
hardware from the big players (even though I would have
probably named Dell further down the list). IBM, HP, ... , Dell
As far as the distro goes: it all depends :}
Do you want/need commercial support? How much do you know
about Linux yourself, how much time do you want to dedicate to
the whole project? If you're good with Linux and you'll be the
sys admin - choose the distro you're most familiar with.
