I'd echo Jethro's comments regarding hardware choices and he has some good
advice with regard to support considerations.

- From an administration perspective, I would suggest Debian is the way to go.
Having used both Red Hat and Debian in a large enterprise environment, Debian is
quite simply easier/quicker/less hassle to administer than Red Hat, as well as
being extremely robust.

If a formal support contract is considered desirable, then the Ubuntu server
distribution would appear to combine the best of both.  Ubuntu server is Debian
based for ease of management, and their long term support versions have a
guaranteed 5 year life cycle with free security updates.  You can download and
use Ubuntu server for no cost, or you can elect to add formal commercial support
contracts with Canonical direct (http://tinyurl.com/osm63) or through local
companies (http://tinyurl.com/3cep3g).
