That will depend on the chipset used in the internal modem.
Some chipsets have limited Linux support, in the form of binary Linux
drivers, or Linux drivers with a partial binary component.
From memory some of the lucent chipsets and intel chipsets have
drivers... you would need to do your homework to find a suitable card.
Be aware that if you use binary drivers for the modem, it's possible
that the drivers may break with future kernel updates and it might not
be possible to get newer drives.
