'Obtain an IP address automatically' is the windows option that enables
DHCP.
Most likely, your broadband router is configured to hand out DHCP
addresses to your computers.
You can also configure your Ubuntu computer to automatically get an IP
address via DHCP. If you have a GUI, you can go
System-Administration-Networking, or look up the relevant CLI
information.
