Not much use even if someone did have such a guide - the polices will
vary a lot depending on the site and the way their computers are setup.
If you want suggestions for one:
POWER MANAGEMENT
- turn off computers at end of the day
- setup the computer's power management to do auto-standby after an hour
or so, and turn the screen off after 30mins. Set the computer to
hibernate after 2 hours.
I've found that some users get a bit annoyed if the screen goes off in
less than 30mins.
- Make the power button on the front shutdown the computer, so you can
say "push this button at the end of the day". Doesn't get any simpler,
especially if you're dealing with staff with very low computer skills.
BACKUP
Create a list of all the staff who need to do anything regarding the
backup, and delegate a secondary staff member who has todo it if the
main person is away.
If staff keep forgetting, make a printout they have to sign off each day
for the backup, and stick it by the door.
FILE STORAGE
Will depend on the organisation. Most likely you want all the docs on
the server, so say "files must be stored in network drive X:/" or
whatever.
INTERNET USAGE POLICY
I know you said you don't need one of these, but it does make good sense
to create one and have it with the document. Otherwise one will never
get written until someone does something inappropriate.
