Your answer helps explain why there is confusion here. My places menu 
contains only the following:
John
Trash
Desktop
File system
Floppy drive
Recent documents
Thatś ALL.

I must be missing something or this installation is somehow different to 
the point of defeating some of its prime uses. (puzzled). Ah, got it! 
The package had not been installed. I am downloading the files now.
