[wellylug] Linksys router connection

Hi Lyndsay,

The DHCP setting should not be responsible for a drop in speed.

It is possible that there is some DNS-related problem causing timeouts
when trying to look up names, but thats about the only thing that
springs to mind.

If you could open a terminal and type 'ping google.co.nz', and check to
see if there is a delay before the packets show up on the screen - you
should see output almost immediately - let it run for a while, then
press ctrl-c to stop it, any packet loss on the network, that might
provide a further clue.

I have also noticed appalling performance from my telstra cable over the
last few days, with a number of outages, and a ~4 hour outage on monday
morning. It could be that your PC is configured to use telstras DNS
servers and they arent working properly for some reason, while your
laptop has a different setting.

I have noticed that 203.96.152.4 is extremely slow to service requests
at the moment. If you can locate the DNS server setting in your
settings, you could try changing it to 203.96.152.12 and seeing if that
helps, but otherwise hopefully it will come right when telstra fix their
network properly.
Hope that helps

-Pete
