netbios name. Run 'nmblookup <windows pc name>'. It should return the Windows
pc's ip address.

Try the same thing from the windows machine. Open a command prompt and run
'nmblookup -a linuxpc'. It should give back the IP address of the Linux pc.

Also, make sure the Windows PC is in the same workgroup as the Linux one. This
isn't strictly necessary, but it will often help resolve name resolution
issues.

You will also want to ensure your Samba server is the master browser for the
network. Edit your smb.conf and add:

os level = 127
domain master = yes
preferred master = yes
local master = yes

Also, it may help to configure your Windows PC to use the Samba server for WINS
resolution. Edit smb.conf and add:

wins support = yes

Then open the Network control panel in Windows and add the IP of your Samba PC
as a WINS name server.

Finally, it would pay to make sure the Windows PC is in the same workgroup as
the Linux PC. This isn't strictly necessary, but it solves a lot of problems.
In Windows 95/98 this setting is in the Network control panel, and in 2000/XP
it's under 'Network ID' in the System control panel.

Hope this helps,

Sam
