[wellylug] Printing from Ubuntu 8

After installing  my latest Ubuntu I got some interest from a local who 
had a bad windows experience.

He plans to come and see it in my workshop. Since his PC has dialup, I 
found an article on setting it up for him. Next job was to print it. 
Everything seemed ready. The Ubuntu system was internet connected. It 
could detect other machines on my network. I even informed it of my 
shared printer (Brother HL-5040 shared under W98 over TCP/IP and 
NETBEUI). Then I tried to print the page to it.

That's when it started ignoring things. Nothing I did made any 
difference. I made numerous attempts, but never printed anything. Got 
any guidance on this please?
