[wellylug] Ubuntu 8.04 and Acer laptops - compatibility?

Hi,

I'm right on the verge of buying the...
Acer AS5315-301G12Mi
or the...
Acer AS5315-201G08Mi
from Dick Smith tonight, so I can bring it to Saturday's InstallFest.

I'm honing in on these because a couple of laptops sort of similar to
these were found to be pretty compatible with some Ubuntus sort of similar
to Hardy Heron.

If any of you have had experience (trying) to install Ubuntu 8.04.1 on one
of these two models, or can find a compatibility report about such a match
that ISN'T written in German or French, I'd really appreciate hearing from
you ASAP.
