IME, this happens with Windows, too - pick any two given releases of
Windows and the chances of them being able to read each others' shares
is slightly under 50%; ie, it tends to work in maybe one direction, if
you're lucky. Especially once you get into multiple releases apart.
Perhaps the SMB client in Linux needs some updates to work with a
Windows 7 server. Until then, you could try writing to the Samba users'
mailing list.
