Having a quick look at the review, your comments are widely shared.  
Slow reads and writes and proprietary formats and operating systems.  
Anyone else tried FreeNAS.  It seems to address the issues except that 
based on FreeBSD, it has problems with Fat32 which should not be a 
problem.  :-)
