I find that cds and dvds have irritatingly short lives. One or two
installs, or lying around for a few months is often the end of them.
I don't think you burned a copy of 8.04 two years ago!
Why do you want 8.04. It was a good release but the later ones can be
written to and installed off usb memory drive which is much more
robust. You still need the iso on either cd or usb of course but as
long as you can boot off usb it's a very good way to go, more
reliable, quicker and quieter. There will be another long term release
along in in April 2010 that you can upgrade to.
Whatever you decide to get to install there are plenty of copies
around, just ask the group to get you one and make arrangements to
pick it up.
