The Dlink support response is a red-herring intended to at least make
it seem like they have support :)

It sounds to be that either Ubuntu doesn't have drivers for your
wireless network adapter, or it didn't detect it properly, or that
maybe the configuration isn't quite right for your wireless network.

Does the network manager thingamajig (apologies for the technical
language) show a wireless adapter? If not, it's a driver/detection
problem.

If it does have an adapter listed, can you see your wireless network?
If so, what happens if you try to connect?

Wireless is one unfortunately area where things aren't always as
smooth as they should be.
