[wellylug] Telecom XT - ZTE USB modem

Has anyone had any luck with the $200 ZTE (MF636) USB modem? I've been
browsing the Ubuntu forums and only got so far.

This modem initially appears in lsusb as a storage device 19d2:2000,
which when unmounted then switches to a serial device 19d2:0031. Adding
this udev rule sorts this bit out:

SYSFS{idVendor}=="19d2", SYSFS{idProduct}=="2000", RUN+="/usr/bin/eject
%k", OPTIONS+="last_rule"

Once the serial device appears, the /dev/ttyUSB{0,1,2} devices appear,
which is fine.

I'm running Karmic Alpha 5, which handily includes NZ Vodafone and
Telecom Xt in its network manager wizard, except it doesn't seem to work.

One interesting thing I found was advice to poke an AT command at it in
another OS:

AT+ZCDRUN=8

Which apparently switches the autorun storage device switching off.
Except that it didn't, and interestingly the device now doesn't work in
Windows either. So it might be that I've bricked it somehow. Oops.

Anyway thanks for listening :-)
J
