[wellylug] DynDNs

Thanks Daniel. Those are relatively new plans, and it seems that Xtra are
slowly 'getting it' with regard to cost:benefit. It used to be $25/month or
something ridiculous. Also worth noting that you'll payt $10/mo for your
static if you don't keep all your calling plans (tolls etc) with Telecom.

However from a service perspective I would definitely not recommend Xtra as
your ISP.

I do happen to know that ICONZ charge $5/month. Details at
http://www.iconz.net/internet/adsl-broadband

Orcon as already noted don't 'officially' do static IP's but in theory your
IP is 'almost' static.

The advantage of Static IP's is the ability to get forward/reverse DNS
configured to your particular needs, and to not rely on a
low-ttl-sometimes-shonky DynDNS service. Though it's 'usually' fine it is
another layer of external dependency. For home use, or small business use,
DynDNS is usually OK, but in the order of $5/month if this is budgetable, a
real static IP is much better.

Mark.
