I too WAS interested in Waze, until I did a bit of research:
http://radar.oreilly.com/2009/08/waze-make-your-own-maps-in-rea.html
"One of the first questions that many geo
geeks<http://twitter.com/jrishel/status/3286835212>ask of Waze is what
about whether they could use
OpenStreetMap's <http://www.openstreetmap.org/> data. CEO Noam
Bardin<http://twitter.com/noamb11>is wary of the OSMs licensing and
would rather start from scratch. Waze
definitely intends commercialize their maps and does not want to have any
issues with that."
http://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-il/2009-April/000109.html
"In short, the maps are "driver generated" but are not "shared" and
definitely not "driver owned".
To me it seems Waze are happy to consume your map data and hard work, but
not give it up for free. And Open Street Map due to their staunch CC
approach means you can access and remix the data.
So... I would stear clear of Waze and only use Open Street Maps sources
IMHO.
Cheers
