I'm ambivalent about this. I don't agree that fiddling 'till something 
breaks and then happily restoring/reinstalling is a good way to carry on 
(not that the OP did this, I hope). If something happened to my main box 
I'd be devastated. Or at least severely p*ssed depending on the issue. 
That's why I *take backups*. That's why I take backups of the backups. 
And I'm thinking of taking backups of them too. Deleting random files is 
NOT on the agenda.

But, but, but.... If it does brake, or even break, I do stand a smaller 
than zero chance of fixing it. It shouldn't break. It *shouldn't* break.

My main aim is to ensure that things DON'T break. It's the only sensible 
strategy. I have to have a good reason to delete any files - apart from 
data files possibly.
