Its a bummer that Linux doesn't work out of the box with dial-up
modems. I mean it detected the wireless network adapter I have and
sniffed out the wireless network I use by day and connected without a
hitch, its disappointing that dial-up is such a mission. I imagine
that there must be a significant chunk of the world, especially the
developing world, that doesn't have a broadband connection and still
uses dial-up. I can only guess that they wouldn't use Linux.
I can supply the settings in network manager if that could help with
clarification of where I am going wrong. I have identified via
Scanmodem that I have a software modem, no surprise there, and it
looks like, from my limited understanding, that it seems to be part of
my audio systems circuitry. I know from Windows Vista that it is a
Motorola SM56 56K modem, and under Windows it works fine.
