Gentlepersons,
I am trying to help an old friend preserve a box of VHS tapes. He is
using Ubuntu 12.04.
He has bought a Video Recorder and and an easycapdc60 usb converter.

>From this site http://easycap.blogspot.co.nz/2012/07/new-driver-for-easycap-dc60-stk1160.html
I downloaded the driver (module?) which I gather replaces the easycap
original. I think I got it right and if I do a modprobe -l I get

kernel/lib/cpu-notifier-error-inject.ko
kernel/lib/lru_cache.ko
kernel/lib/cordic.ko
extra/stk1160.ko

at the bottom of the list so I assume the module is there.

At this point I am at a loss. No hardware seems to know about it and
there is supposed to be something called a Controlle card to play
with. I have the recorder plugged in and running through the easycap
and the usb plugged in,

A lsusb gives me:
