Hi Jeff
You might want to see if anything got logged when you plug in the USB 
device using dmesg or tail -f /var/log/dmesg before and see how it goes 
when you plug it in.

When plugged in, you should check if module get loaded using lsmod.

The thing is, lsusb should list the device even if the driver isn't found.
Did you try the device on something else (like windows) ?
