Ah, you are probably a member of SLUG these days < Sydney Linux Users
Group > ..
#slug at freenode.net has got me out of trouble on a number of occasions ..
it has an unexpectedly large international membership
.. but you can't beat local knowledge at Wellylug.

Sydney can seem a small place during a mega bushfire. I was there when
spot fires
were seen in the CBD, and the front progressed from S to SW to W to NW
to North of the city.

At the international terminal you could draw a line in the sky - one
side pitch black smoke,
the other sky blue. A nuclear winter scenario seemed very feasible.
