How does anyone know that Meetup doesn't do the same
thing? Or the hosting company used to provide any
server another (open) solution is hosted on? Or even
whether other people on this list report back to some
govt agency?
But... even with all the privacy concerns and all. Why
are people actually this upset about the *mention* of
using Facebook to track events for a public meeting?
It isn't requiring you to actually use Facebook, we
can continue to use a mailing list as well.
If you do decide to use Facebook, it isn't forcing you
to put lots of public things up about your other lives..
I think I will actually go to the level of saying that
if people want a group so shut out from the world, I
suggest you make your own group that doesn't have any
public interaction. Myself, I will continue trying to
rekindle this "public" and "open" group, and use all
methods to try and get that sort of audience.
In the meantime, I will stick with my original idea,
having a public mailing list, and perhaps some more
modern event management system. Facebook was used as
a suggestion for that, as was Meetup, or even a public
ics file. I'm open to suggestions!
Cheers,
Hugh
