That's a pretty big generalisation about the world's biggest and most 
diverse user base.  Several people here have already indicated they are 
on Facebook.  I am on Facebook because that's where my friends and 
family share the information I am interested in knowing, it's got 
nothing to do with philosophy of "freedom" or anything like that.

The whole point of marketing / promotion is to let those *who could 
potentially be interested* learn that X even *exists*.  If we don't 
think that anybody who doesn't already know about us could ever be 
interested then why wouldn't we just stick to this very mailing list for 
any and all communications?
