I was speaking to the Novell people today and am confident that we will
have copies of SuSE 9 Personal for the day. I also have a backup plan in
the shape of an ftp server that we can use which I tested today (and it
goes like a rocket!). Updates can be driven from an Australian mirror
however I might also mirror that to the ftp server closer to the day.
In light of this and given there are still no registrations for FC1 would
it be possible to add SuSE to the line up on the installfest web page? Do
we drop FC1 entirely?? No harm in leaving it but I would be inclined to
talk people out of it if I could.
Also, the 1pm pitch needs to be changed to 'Installation Considerations'
rather than 'Demo of Linux Install using...'. We've got Brent and co doing
demo installs during the day so don't need another. Revised words as
follows:
-----
Linux Installation Considerations
This presentation is designed to outline some of the basic hardware
considerations that may need to be addressed before installing Linux. It is
aimed at those who would like some background on what to look for when
choosing hardware to use with Linux. It also covers some options you have
in a dual boot environment and includes some commentary on pitfalls to
avoid. There is also a section on ongoing maintenance and software package
selection.
Topics to be covered are:
Hardware Considerations Recommended requirements and types of equipment to
avoid
Preliminary Preparation Disk partitioning and boot
Ongoing Maintenance Package management systems

(sorry Jethro...more work...)
