[wlug_org] InstallFest Money

Hi All...

I'm all for keeping this off the main list and doing it at the next meeting.

Ideas:
1.) Gift to Shane Cole and LAN Place
2.) Gift to Silicon for letting us (WellyLUG) use their place for the
InstallFest

I'm not really for the LUG having assets, unless it is something like a
server at LAN Place for putting ISO's on.

RGDS

Michael

Hi,

So, after the InstallFest, thanks to the donations, we are left with
$337 dollars in cash.

The next question is what shall we do with it?

I briefly asked some people on their views, and the trend was it was
something that could be decided within the org group.

I'm not so sure. I think generally speaking it's really good to run an
inclusive policy. I think, that, although it was mainly the org team
were involved in the installfest, there were many non org list people
helping and making it happen. So the mainlist should be involved.

So, What I think we should do is basically ask the mainlist for their
suggestions, select the top 5 suggestions based on feedback, and make a
decision based on that at the meeting.

I think it's reasonable for the org team to propose a bunch of ideas to
get peoples thoughts rolling. For example, a gift of appreciation for
Shane Cole and the LAN Place team (and hey - what about our sponsors?)
is great idea that Brent had. Another thing that has been suggested is
we should create a bank account. It's been suggested we buy some assets
- this is another consideration - but what could they be? - Anyway - how
about some org_team suggestions? Do we hold assets or do we reinvest
back into the community (Wellington OpenSource Awards anyone?)

<tangent>
I think it's best to be inclusive. Frankly I've been mindful of the
non-org traffic on the org list. That last thing that I personally want
to do is split the community into 2.
</tangent>

Anyway. Some thoughts. If the org_team think that raising the money
issue with the group at the next meeting is a good idea, then please let
me know. And spout forth thy suggestions...

Cheers

Jamie
