I missed .nz off the end of this attempt to post earlier this afternoon.
Most of it is out of context now, but redirected for reference, incase
some of my followups confused the issue. :)

Hi Folks. Tony invited me to join this list, so I have done so.

criticism- gotta start somewhere & it has been a bit in limbo for a
while)

Agreed.
Theres (yet) another list dedicated to discussing NZLUG's way forward.
nzlug-discuss@nzlug.org.nz is where to find it.

It was suggested that I should probably have plugged WLUG's
having-signed-on a little harder than I did. I wasnt sure if this would
make it sound like we were trying to bully you into submission. Waikato
LUG did, at their last General Meeting, agree that their Wiki could be
branded and developed as the NZLUG wiki. Given that its the
sum-of-its-contributions, it is for all intents and purposes the NZLUG
Wiki now.

And yes, from an NZLUG point of view its about 2 weeks old, so its very
much WLUG contributed up untill now. This will change over time. We're
now encouraging NZLUG'rs to contribute to it.

I'm personally not a big Wiki person so its a learning curve for me.
However the WLUG guys have nailed most of the concerns that I have with
it, on the head. (Like verification of data submitted, etc.)

> My feeling is that NZLUG is prob best set up to provide the following:
>
> portal to NZ regional LUG's
> library of core iso's (perhaps each distro with it's own maintainer to
spread
> the load & ensure each has a support contact?)
> links (for each distro) for package sources & support
> links to generally useful sites (distrowatch etc)
> link to NZOSS

Agree with all of the above. Add to it, from my POV, a mailing list with
nationwide orientation and coverage.

regional LUG needs to be appointed as a contact (can I use the other

Yes. This is 'in progress', I hope. We're only just starting down this
track. Waikato and Auckland are the only ones on board. Wellington was
next. Oh, Canterburys on board too.

No approval should be required. Email me directly if you're still having
trouble - but make sure youre using the Mailman list located from
www.linux.net.nz -> user groups .
