Hi,
Craig here from the Waikato LUG. Was pointed to the discussion on the
wellylug list regarding NZLUG, and wanted to point out a couple of things.
> The wiki is in it's infancy, not much more than a front page with links
> to wlug library & a few others.
The WLUG wiki has several thousand user submitted pages. (I'd need NZ to
wake up to get a more accurate answer).
What happened was someone talked about putting up a "NZLUG wiki", for "New
Zealand Linux content". We pointed out that our wiki had been collecting
New Zealand Linux content for nearly three years, and we thought that
duplicating would be silly. To that end, we put up a second frontend to the
wiki as a pisstake, which said "Auckland^WNZLUG Wiki". However, people
seemed to like the idea, and progress is being made at having the "NZLUG
wiki" being a viewport into the WLUG wiki. Owing to the collaborative
nature of a wiki and the Internet, this is a good idea.
For the NZLUG website, it would make sense to drop the library/webmail
links; I'm sure the people renovating the themes will get to that in time.
But have a look around; there is much more than a wiki "in its infancy".
> The package (esp 3rd party) sites for SUSE, Mandrake, Debian, Slackware,
> etc., are seldom listed or linked by LUG's, so users get told "just
> download &
> install, its easy". Unfortunately, if you don't know where, it's not easy,
> it's enough to drive you to M$!
Check out www.wlug.org.nz/FedoraCore, www.wlug.org.nz/Ubuntu etc. If they
don't list everything you think you need to know, feel free to add to it.
There is nothing specific to the WLUG about most of the content, and often
nothing specific to NZ yet. We are just the people that put the site up.

As for the rest of the discussion, as Mark has pointed out, there is a
mailing list for nzlug discussion which I have seen a number of you on. To
make it easy for other people to participate, would you guys mind continuing
the NZLUG discussions on that list, rather than this one?
Thanks heaps,
Craig
