Mutter mutter I phoned up to find out what the story was.  The first call
was to 'faults' >> 'broadband'  where I had some music.  After about 10
minutes of that I started a second call on the mobile and went 'technical
assistance' >> 'broadband' and there I was told there was an hour delay.

I would expect that when there is an outage there should be a message
telling people that there is an outage ... saves a bunch of grumpy people
getting grumpier waiting on the phone (to be told that there is an outage).

I think whenever I ring TC now I will go straight to my cellphone, let
them absorb the cost (or at least transfer it between divisions) of the
call to the 0508 number.

Maybe I just expect too much.
