Glad you got that off your chest :-)
I disagree with tossing him off. He is a consistant contributer to the
list and I can't really see that advertising free give-aways is blatant
enough to trigger such a drastic action.
If you want to institute some formula for tossing people off the list, I
think natural justice means that the criteria should be spelt out very
explicitly, and a formal warning given (by someone we give authority to
send such warnings, not a self appointed sheriff ;-) before action is taken.
Personally I think we should
1) Have a clever mailing list that directs replies to [OT] posts back to
the original poster, rather than the list (then we just have to persuade
everyone to ensure "[OT]" is in the appropriate subject lines (and throw
people off the list if it isn't ;-)
2) Automatically sign everyone up to the wellylug, wellylugorg, and
wellylugtrade lists when they subscribe to wellylug - they can then
unsubscribe from the other lists if theyreally don't want them.
(This might get more people participating in wellylugorg and if people know
the wellylugtrade list has most people on it, they would be more inclined
to use it (at present it has 40 subscribers and very little traffic -
probably more buy/sell/free/job topics are posted to the main list than the
trade list ;-)
Tony.
