Maybe a list admin/owner could turn on content filters... then
anything with OT in it could only be sent to those who want OT posts,
likewise with [trade] or something. It worked on a list I managed a
while back.. and might solve this ongoing debate over what is really
advertising.
If our moderators were keen on it, then we could always queue for
moderation anything with the word free in it, as long as it doesn't
also mention beer. Free beer should be allowed on any list.

Yeah, while I wouldn't want to be spammed with advertising - finding
a new owner for the spare bits of junk you think are still not worth
taking to the tip is something of use to people who don't have enough
junk... ;)
