I don't think anybody has a problem with what Ewen and Nous have been
generously donating to WellyLUG. And I don't see a need to move away from
Nous hosting our two very low volume email lists.
I don't, however, see a point in WellyLUG having a separate nearly dead
buy/sell/exchange list. Why not simply stand up at a meeting and announce
that you've got xyz piece of hardware for sale?
Nobody has addressed the educational aspect of WellyLUG having free
hardware available for members (if we had a membership) to either have or
to borrow so that they/we could learn more about things that cannot be
done with only one computer (if we had members actually wanting to learn
- shocking tho' that might be).
What if a person came along and wanted to learn about Linux, but didn't
have a computer of their own?
Having hardware available to WellyLUG can help to further the aims and
objectives of the Group (that is, if it genuinely had any aims and
objectives other than yakking or being a mutual helpdesk for
semi-experienced professionals)
I am starting to feel that I should reconsider what value there can be
from membership in WellyLUG.
We hear lots about what people don't want, and even more about what people
don't want to do; but we hear very little indeed from people actually
actively wanting to help, or wanting to contribute, or wanting to present
Linux to the world, or even... wanting to turn up to meetings.
And I see a few people preserving vested interests.
WellyLUG should rediscover what its reason for existence is - and should
act on that!
Cheers
David
