Hi Tom,

For some reason Evolution is not quoting your replies properly, so I'll
write here:

        1. Mandrake packages are compiled for i586
        2. Folks plug in new hardware all the time: mice, printers,
           monitors, modems etc.  Not having a GUI program to handle
           this is often too much for people new to Linux.  The problem
           is not so much with the install--it's with the maintenance.
        3. Community groups may simply not have the money to buy a
           powerful server.  And why should they?  For instance, if you
           were running a rape crisis centre, would you rather help
           (taking a wild guess) 20 additional rape victims or buy a
           competent server?

I'm currently supporting users who run Windows in my office; I see the
struggles they have even with Windows.  Believe me, if and when they run
Debian desktops, it won't be them who are setting it up.  And yes, I
hope they do run a Linux desktop.  That's why we have set up terminal
services here.  But it will be a real struggle for some users to make
the adjustment.
